Michele Stephenson (USA)
Michele Stephenson recently retired
from TIME Magazine after serving as Director of Photography for the last
ninete
en years. During her tenure TIME won an unprecedented number of
awards for photography and photo editing. In the last five years alone TIME won
400 such awards including the prestigious National Magazine Award for Photo
Portfolio in 1994. In 1999, at Visa PourLĄ¯Image in Perpignan,
photographers worldwide voted Stephenson Picture Editor Of the Year and in 2004
she won the Lucie Award for Photo Editor of the Year.
Her other activities include Alexia Foundation Advisory Council to the Board
of Directors, Eddie Adams Workshop Board of Directors, Presidents Council of the
International Center of Photography, Freedom Forum Photojournalism Seminars
(1992-1996) in Russia, Ukraine, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia and China, World
Press Photo jury 1994, and chair 1995. She has been jury member of
Overseas Press Club Awards, POYi , Best of Photojournalism and Visa Pour
LĄ¯Image/Perpignan.. Her book editing projects include Eyes on the World ¨C Alexia
Foundation, Day in the Life books, Passage to Vietnam, 24 Hours in Cyberspace,
One Digital Day and The American Woman America At Home.

I haven't been to China in twelve years and am delighted to
be here with my colleagues on this jury. I'm looking forward to seeing
great photographs, especially from Chinese photographs. |
