Huang joined Xinhua in 1989 upon her graduation from photojournalism major in the Journalism Department, the People¡¯s University of China. Her photo story Kids Learning Peking Opera got a prize at the Festical du Scoop et Du Journalisme in Anger of France in 1995. Being a Xinhua photographer based in Germany, she went to Kosovo and worked as a battlefield photographer, covering the Kosovo War. Her photo book about the war TARGET was published by SDX Joint Publishing Company in 2000. She went to Stanford University in the United States as a Knight Fellow in 2002 and became international news researcher. Being a jury member of World Press Photo Contests, she went to Amsterdam twice in 2006 and 2007 for the judging. In 2007 she was invited to American as the adviser of All Roads Photography Project by National Geographic Society and of Alexia Foundation. She went to the United States again as a jury member of Annual News Photo International Contests in February 2008. Since 2005, she has served as Executive Secretary of Jury of China International Press Photo Contest.
